How Acupuncture works

Acupuncture is an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is a comprehensive health care system with a history of over 3000 years. Basically acupuncture works to promote the body’s ability to heal itself.

Science has explained that energy flows throughout the universe including our bodies. The Chinese word for energy is Qi. Qi flows in the path of least resistance, and this forms the meridians within our body. These meridians carry the Qi and substances that cells and organs require to function properly and communicate well, therefore keep the body in balance.

When the meridians become blocked the flow of Qi becomes impeded. Therefore the cells and organs do not acquire the nutrients that they need in order to function at optimum levels or stagnant or excessive Qi & toxic substances build up in the area causing pain. When the organs are not receiving the Qi and fresh nutrients or stagnation of Qi or toxic substances occurs and the cells of the body can’t communicate with each other, we start to get illnesses occurring.

Acupuncture uses fine needles, cupping or heat therapy to unblock the meridians and the correct amount of Qi and nutrients to reach the cells and organs which in turn allows them to communicate with each other better and function at optimum levels. This then allows the body to correct itself and eliminate the problem.
